Caretas
Caretas de Acupe is a traditional festivity of Bahia's Folklore. It's a cultural manifestation told by elders that tells that the Portuguese brought masks to the region to use in carnival celebrations during colonization times. Then slaved blacks had the idea of building their own masks for the celebration. Today they present themselves in Acupe's streets, always in July, depicting an episode that occurred in the independence of Bahia, where the "warriors from Acupe" camouflaged with masks pursued the enemy soldiers.
